Leland Stanford Junior University, better known as Stanford University is considered to be private research university, which is located in California, the United States of America. This higher educational institution was established in 1885. It was created by Leland Stanford, who was the former governor of the USA and who would become a senator and his wife, called Jane Lathrop.
This higher educational institution was created in the honour of their son, who died in the age of 15 because of the typhoid. The parents were desperate, however, in future they decided to built the university in order the teenagers have the opportunity to receive the higher education. The Stanford family used their own lands in order to build the university. Firstly, they wanted this educational institution to be only for male. However, further they decided to make it available for the female as well.
